The prophet doesn’t focus on any single outward behavior. Sexual immorality was an issue, as we know from Genesis, and so was her lack of concern for the poor and needy, as we see mentioned here. But Ezekiel doesn’t target either of those primarily. Rather, he says that the real issue with Sodom was her haughty heart—she was proud.   The fate of Sodom and Gomorrah is used as a warning to those who reject the gospel (Matthew ; ; 2 Peter ; Jude ). The word is used in a typical sense in Revelation Sodom was probably located in plain South of the Dead Sea, now covered with water. The name is still preserved in Jebel Usdum (Mt. Sodom).

Studies of the remains of small settlements in the region showed signs of extreme, collapse-inducing heat and wind. Pottery was discovered to have been exposed to heat so intense that it melted into glass. Zircon crystals in those glassy coats formed within one second at extremely high temperatures, perhaps as hot as the surface of the sun. Sodom definition, an ancient city destroyed, with Gomorrah, because of its wickedness. Genesis 18– See more.

The Battle of Siddim is described in Genesis – Lot is encamped within the borders of Sodom at a time when "the men of Sodom [are] wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly". Sodom and Gomorrah are ruled by Bera and Birsha, respectively, although their kingship is not sovereign because the Jordan plain has been under the rule of Chedorlaomer the Elamite for twelve years.   The Book of Genesis contains some of the most dramatic stories ever told. One of them has stood for thousands of years as a powerful lesson in the perils of wickedness: the story of Sodom .

This book helps explain the Moses from the viewpoint of a person living during the Enoch era. I found the book to be very insightful and easy to read. I went back and re-read Moses again after reading the book and the insights and understanding are much greater than before.5/5.

average based on 1 product rating. 1 users rated this 5 out of 5 stars 1. Sodom and Gomorrah are two of the Old Testament’s most infamously sinful cities. Genesis 19 tells the story of how God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for their wickedness, but spared Lot and his family (mostly).

Abraham has three mysterious visitors The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees. Despite being warned not to look back, Lot's wife cannot help herself and is therefore turned into a pillar of salt.

To me, it is clear that the real sin of Sodom is radical inhospitality, or turning one's back upon the strangers and the neediest in our midst. The story of the fiery destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah is one of a diminishing few biblical narratives of which our culture is familiar.

Though few might have read the extended account, set in the time of Abraham, that runs through Genesisthe imagery has become proverbial.

The Sodom story and the Gibeah story mutually interpret one another. First, the angels and the Levite are strangers, aliens.

Lot and the Ephraimite man who lives in Gibeah are “resident aliens”. They are not native to Sodom or Gibeah. Such people were vulnerable to citizens suspicious of outsiders.

In his recently published Look Back at Sodom, Elder Maxwell describes what might have happened to Sodom and her sister cities, which were destroyed because of their wickedness. Now, in Of One Heart, he describes the Christ-centered society of Enoch, providing a fascinating account of what might have happened in that ancient city and the lessons."But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt." () I don't think Lot's wife just glanced back.

Apparently, she stopped running and gazed back at the city of her birth, now being destroyed. The Hebrew verb is nābat, "look, regard, gaze." She had been told specifically "Don't look back and don't stop anywhere in the plain!".

Well, here's the thing. We don't know, and anyone who is saying otherwise hasn't even bothered to do a cursory Wikipedia search. As Britannica notes, the homosexuality interpretation has history on its side, and Biblical verses like Genesiswhich make it clear the men of Sodom wanted to sexually assault the male angels in Lot's the other hand, modern Jewish scholarship .
